Space Heater vs. Central Heat - Which is cheaper?

Posted on October 29th, 2008 in My Random Thoughts by Nuss

So I live in a big, old house with two roommates.  Our electricity bill is so ridiculously high when it’s hot outside.  Now it’s getting cold.  It’s too damn cold right now!  If each of had a little space heater running, would that be cheaper than turning on the gas powered central heat?  Most of the time it would only be me with my space heater on during the day and then those two would sleep with one on as well as I at night.  If you know which would cost less, leave a comment and let me know.  Also let me know why you think it would or wouldn’t. Thanks!

Im about to be 28. Oh no!

Posted on October 29th, 2008 in My Random Thoughts by Nuss

I can’t believe it. In just a few days I will be 28 years old. Most days I still feel like I’m 21. Unfortunately, most days, I still act like I’m 21. All I own is my car and way too many gadgets. I still spend every extra dollar on partying or just buying things that make me feel better for only a day or so. I’ve been working really hard lately so hopefully when I’m about to turn 29 I can post something a litle sunnier.

Can I do any better? Part 1

Posted on October 28th, 2008 in Dating by Nuss

So here’s the skinny on my girlfriend and I. After reading this, please tell me what you think of this situation. Am I a sucker? Can I do any better? Am I totally wrong? Am I crazy? The only thing I can be totally sure of is that this is a dysfunctional relationship for the both of us.

I met this woman about 11 years ago when I was a sophomore in high school through mutual friends. This was a pretty girl who was sweet and showed attention to me. Up until now, I have always settled for women who came to me. I never chased down or tried to talk to anyone I was attracted to. The problem with this girl was that she was nothing like me. I was a well behaved (never really in any trouble as a teen) varsity football player with good grades and a mother who was very much a part of my life and very influencing in a positive way. This girl, let’s call her Nic, had dropped out of school, had already had sex with at least two people (i was a virgin because I just wasn’t ready for the worries that come with sex), liked to drink alcohol (i had been to a house party or two with booze but that really wasn’t my thing) and smoked cigarettes. Nic lived with both her parents but she pretty much just stayed to herself upstairs in her room. Her parents were nice but her dad is a functional alcoholic (case of beer/day it seems) and her mom was, well, she just didn’t have the best parenting skills.

I use to go to Nic’s house a lot. It was cool.  I could sleep over and stuff all the time and it was no big deal.  Many times her parents weren’t home and we could do pretty much whatever we wanted. We could have other friends come over with alcohol and have a little couples house party all the time.  That kind of freedom was fun but it also explained a lot about why Nic turned out to be a bright, beautiful 16 year old who dropped out of school and now did what amounted to nothing all day and had sex with a couple boys really young, drank alcohol, and smoked cigarettes.

I dated nic from around what I am guessing was February 1996 - July or maybe August 1996.  We’re only talking about around 6 months, maybe (if Im wrong with my dates).  I liked her a lot but of coarse with a girl like this, there are problems.  A, I worried what she was doing all the time.  While we did everything up to and including “third base”, after a couple months, it seems like she was always pressuring me to have sex with her.  I never gave in.  I had too much to worry about.  I had school, I had football, and I took them both very seriously.  Plus, I knew that she wasn’t on birth control (i don’t think) and I also knew that I really didn’t like the way condoms felt on me.  I had tried a few on for practice just in case I ever did have sex any time soon and thought they were terrible.  Knowing all of this, if I were to start having sex with Nicole, there was a chance of her getting pregnant.  I couldn’t do that to myself or my mom.  I held out and I’m glad I did.

I called Nic on the phone, a pay phone, from a gas station near my house and told her I didn’t want to see her anymore.  I had been hearing from a couple people about this guy named Jason (who I had never seen or met before) and that Nic was seeing him or at least talking to him while talking to me.  This didn’t sit well with me.  My whole life I had been a good boyfriend, never the “dog”.  That was as much true then as it is now.  And as true now as it was then, I’ve always gotten fucked over. Back to Jason, this kid called her house while I was there. I answered a time or two and this kid would curse me out.  He would say stuff like “Fuck you bitch. Put Nic on the phone.” Wow, very nice. I ended things shortly after that.  I couldn’t worry about a girl like this.  She wasn’t respectable.  I feel I am and always have been.

I didn’t talk to Nic for 10 years after this.  There was only one time, when I was about 21, that I saw her leaving a nig ht club when I was arriving.  It was weird.  We made eye contact but only for a split second.  Neither of us can remember if there were any verbal greetings.  Maybe a head nod of some sort.  I may have smiled. I smile a lot. I also may have been on MDMA (ecstasy).  There was a party faze for me back then where I “rolled” a lot.  I’m sure she heard about this through mutual friends we had throughout the years.  I wonder what she thought after seeing me.  I thought of her all ten of the years we hadn’t talked.  I thought of her more after that.  Nic is hot.  She has the best body I’ve ever gotten naked with.  To be honest, that’s what I thought about the most.  I remember she was sweet but I remember the body the most.

The Best To-Do List and Task List Software

Posted on October 27th, 2008 in My Favorite Software by Nuss

Is this freeware? No.  I have yet to find a task list software that was free that could do what Swift’s To-Do List Software can do.  I bought this about a year ago and I use it every single day I work on the computer which is about 5 days a week.  My whole work life is organized on this thing!  Without this, I could never keep up with all the work I need to do each week.

I’m a webmaster (which I know is a lame term to guys in the business).  I manage roughly 50 domains.   I can keep my head on straight and my nose from going underwater because of how organized I can keep my tasks because of this task manager.

There’s an online version and a software download.  Try it out, which is free, and see how you like it.  Here’s a picture of what mine looks like right now. Oh, and I sync my save file to be able to use this on multiple computers.

Also one of my most favorite features is how it minimizes to the system tray instead of taking up a tab on my explorer in Windows.

Best and Fastest AntiVirus? I’m about to find out.

Posted on October 17th, 2008 in My Random Thoughts by Nuss

I fired up an older computer of mine and hooked it up to my kvm switch.  Wow.  It’s been over two years since I’ve turned this thing on.  I have been working a lot lately and sometimes I don’t want to slow my “good” computer down when I’m doing things like converting videos, running anti-spyware and anti-virus softwares, etc.

It’s like a trip back in time using this older computer.  I cleaned it up and have it ready to go.  I uninstalled some really outdated security software and have been searching for some new security software.  Since this computer is only rocking a 1.7mhz AMD with 512mb RAM, I need to keep speed in mind.  I wanted something light on the resources but still held to a high standard.  I ended up downloading Comodo Anti-Virus.

Man, it’s hot as shit in here now with two desktops running!

The Saints kicked the Raiders’ asses!

Posted on October 13th, 2008 in My Random Thoughts by Nuss

Wow! What a great game today. It was so nice to see the Saints coast to a victory. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t sweating in the fourth quarter os a Saints game. Drew Brees is the man. I hope he breaks passing records and gets mvp this year. Even more, I hope the Saints get to the playoffs. I can only imagine how much more potent our offense will be once Colstom, Patten, and the rest of the injured Saints players return. Even Jason David got an interception today which is amazing. Man, Jamarcus Russell sucks!

Multiple Instant Messenger

Posted on October 10th, 2008 in Internet by Nuss

I’ve been looking for an instant messenger that can allow me to be logged into several different services at once.  I haven’t looked for software like this in a long time because I’ve using Gtalk exclusively for a few years now.  Since I’m back on my internet grind, I need to get in touch with my affiliate managers for the adult affiliate programs that I promote.  None of them so far use Gtalk.  They all have contact info that lists icq.  I didn’t know people still used icq.

I’m giving Pidgin a try since it’s the only one I had heard of out of the search results I got from Google after searching for “messenger icq gtalk”.

I’m about to install Pidgin…….

Okay while installing I had options to select or deselect which options and chat clients I wanted to install.  I didn’t see gtalk listed.  There was also an option to add spell checking support in many different languages.  I definitely added that.  After it installs and I run it, I’m going to look for gtalk.  If I can’t log in to my google talk then Pidgen will be useless to me.

Since I added the spell checker, it did an additional install of Aspell and also downloaded a current database of what I assume are words from the English language.  I just realized I don’t remember my old icq usernames and passwords so I’m going to have to do a little icq registration.  Of coarse I’ll be putting in mostly junk info, especially my email, because god only knows what kind of spam will come from registering with icq.  That’s my assumption at least.

I tried to setup my first account which is my gmail/gtalk.  Yes, it was on the list even though I didn’t see it during installation.  I entered my info and it wouldn’t connect.  The error said  “pidgin gtalk disconnected host unknown.”  I googled this and landed on this page.  Now I’m following those instructions.

Still can’t get a connection.  “Server Timed Out.”  This is very frustrating.

I googled a bit and found this site which had instructions to help me get gtalk working on pidgin.  finally, Gtalk works!  Now I’m going to register with icq and add that account.  Let’s see if THAT works without a bunch of hassle.

Registering with icq was pain free.  I will, however, update you with what kind of spam, if any, I get from icq.  Now I’m going to add my icq account info to my pidgin install.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Adding my icq account to pidgin went fine.  It seems I’m all setup and ready to go.  Have a nice day!

Oh, and if you don’t mind, I would love for you to visit my ridiclous product review site, SillyReviews.com. I’m in the process of giving Silly Reviews a complete makeover.  So far it’s coming out great.  Check out some of the product reviews.  I’m sure (or I’m hoping) you”ll get a few laughs out of it.

Freeware Pop3 and IMAP Email Client For Blackberry

Posted on October 9th, 2008 in Electronics by Nuss

So I told you in a previous post how much I was loving my Blackberry Curve 8320 but I need more email access. I don’t understand this blackberry email blackberry enterprise stuff on here. I tried to setup an account but was told I already have an account. The blackberry email on this phone is just too foreign to me. I want an email client on my Curve that looks like what I’m used to which is a program similar to what I use on my PCs, Outlook Express and Thunderbird.

A Google Search for “Blackberry pop3 client” led me to this site which has led me to LogicMail. LogicMail is a freeware app for Blackberry phones that focuses on handling IMAP email but also takes care of POP3 too! I’m about to download and install it. Let’s see what happens. What I want to do is add my gmail accounts to it. I have 4 of them. One is personal and 3 are for work. I get all of my domain emails forwarded to my gmail accounts. It would be great to get all my email on my phone again like I used to do with my other phones like my Blackjack I and many, many pocket pcs I’ve owned.

Downloading, Installing, and setting up LogicMAil on My Blackberry Curve……

I went outside to have a cigarette break and use the Over-The-Air Installation but the link failed to load. I’m installing from my desktop with the Blackberry Desktop Manager……

The Desktop installation worked. I configured one of my accounts to receive IMAP (gmail) and an outgoing mail server for the same. Everything worked on the first try. Hey, I can’t believe it either. I had no new email in my account but by default, LogicMail still downloaded the most recent 30 emails in all folder. I don’t like that. I can’t figure out how to delete all of them at once to have my folders on my blackberry totally cleared. I’m going to read some of the documentation and see if there is a way to “delete all” so I can start fresh with each account. Spam folder messages also downloaded to my phone which is definitely something I don’t like. I’m also going to check my gmail settings to make sure I don’t have a misconfiguration on that end. All I want is any new emails to show up on my phone and save them as new on gmail so I don’t make any mistakes from my phone.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, I am aware there’s a gmail client for Blackberry devices. The problem with that is Ican only login to one account at a time which is not what I need.

Do you know of a better IMAP/POP email client for Blackberry phones, hopefully one that’s free, leave a comment and link me to it. Thanks!

How long does it take for birth control take to start working?

Posted on October 8th, 2008 in Dating by Nuss

Ok so my exgirlfriend and I are back together. While we’ve been broken up for several months, we stopped having sex only a couple months ago. the sex was the hardest thing for both of us to get over.

Now she and I are trying to make it work again. Something that really sucks is the fact that she got off her birth control last month. (Maybe she isn’t the slut I thought she was/is)

She’s getting back on her pills after this upcoming period. What I want to know is how long does it take until they kick in and protect me from making a mistake in the form of a life-ruining baby.

Sure, I could google this but I thought it would be more fun to blog about it here. Leave a comment and let me know what you know. Oh, the b.c.are Yaz birth control pills.

Until then, ill be sticking with the trusty pull out method. Ill post an update if I need advice on where a good place is to get an abortion.
